River Senior Citizens Center, Inc. located at 502 - 10th Ave. S.E.
is a private non-profit agency which administers a program of
services and opportunities for persons in Stutsman County who have
reached the age of 60.
James River
Senior Citizen's Center, Inc. wants to help seniors enjoy their
retirement and to assist them in maintaining their independence.
Funding sources
include Title III, of the Older Americans Act, county and state mill
levies, United Way Funding, Urban Mass Transit Assistance and
private and fraternal contributions.
If otherwise
eligible, no one will be denied services on the grounds of race,
color or national origin. No one will be denied the benefits of or
be otherwise subjected to discrimination under this program, in
compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
Senior
Center Dining: 701-252-2882
A hot, nutritious mid-day meal is served on various days in Stutsman
County. Meals at Center I, the main kitchen, are served seven days a
week. Meals at Jamestown Gardenette, Jameshouse and Post House
sites are served Monday through Friday. In 1997, there were 54,149
meals served at the four sites.
Meals are served
three days a week at Cleveland Senior Center (Tues., Wed., Fri.) and
Kensal Senior Center (Mon., Wed., Fri.). All meals include one-third
of the recommended dietary allowance and are approved by a staff
dietitian. Reservations are to be made a day in advance; payment is
based on the ability to pay. Dakota EBT Cards are accepted.

Delivered Meals: 701-252-2882
Seniors confined to their homes due to physical or mental impairment
are eligible, if criteria is met, for hot noon meals delivered to
their homes seven days a week in Jamestown. Payment is based on
ability to pay. Dakota EBT Cards are accepted. In 1997, there were
46,740 home delivered meals to the homebound.
Transportation:

Dial-A-Ride bus service is available in Jamestown. This service
takes persons to medical appointments, volunteer activities,
shopping and personal errands. Other busing services include rides
to meals and contracted rides for special needs. In 1997, there were
69,447 bus riders. A medical bus to Fargo is scheduled the second
Monday of each month for medical services not available in
Jamestown. The Fargo bus trip also welcomes those who wish to shop
in Fargo for the day. Reservations are to be made in advance. Rates
are posted in each vehicle.

Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Sundays 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Shopping
Assistance: 701-252-2882
Shopping assistance is available on Tuesdays and Fridays in
Jamestown. Groceries are carried into senior's homes. If eligible
because of physical condition, individual grocery shopping can be
specifically arranged for homebound seniors.
Outreach:

Outreach workers visit older residents in their homes, some of whom
have been referred to this agency by neighbors or other agencies.
The purpose of the visit is to assess the needs of the older person
and to link seniors to the appropriate services which may be needed.
In 1997, the Center performed 2,917 hours of outreach service.
Chore:

Chore service is available to help older persons maintain their own
homes. Occasional household repairs, moving furniture, window
washing, changing storm windows and yard maintenance are some of the
tasks seniors find difficult as they age. Donations are accepted for
this service. In 1997, the center perfomed 2,607 hours of chore
service.
Recreation
and Other Activities
All centers in the county have a variety of activities for leisure
time. There's also opportunity for volunteer work. Informative
programs are also available. Activities at Center I include Pool and
Bridge every Monday at 1 p.m., Pinochle every Tuesday and Friday at
1 p.m. Bingo every Wednesday at 1 p.m. Consult your local center for
an activity schedule.
Health
Services
Health maintenance clinics are held at most centers on a regular
basis. Screenings include blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes
monitoring, weight control, immunization and more. Call your local
center for schedule. Hearing clinics are scheduled at senior centers
throughout the county. Call you local center for scheduled dates.
Volunteer
Opportunities
You may join people of all ages who share their time and energy with
older persons by delivering home delivered meals, assisting with
meal service at one of the centers, helping with individual shopping
assistance and much more.

the St. Alexius Osteoporosis Mobile Unit World Wide Study for
two years.
- Our advisory Council meets
on the first Tuesday of month except July.
- Diabetic Support Group
meets on the second Thursday each month at 12:30 p.m.
