NEWS FROM THE DIRECTOR
Each month James River Senior Services will be having two special evening
meals.

The second Thursday of each month will feature a rib night with all the 
trimmings and the fourth Thursday of each month will feature another special 
dinner. This meal will be served at the James River Senior Center I only. 
Serving will start at 6 p.m. each evening. Please call the Center by noon 
Thursday to reserve a meal or have a home delivered meal according to our
regular guidelines.
BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETINGS
The James River Senior Citizens Board of Directors meet every third Thursday of
the month to conduct the business of the organization.  The meetings start
with the noon meal of the day and are open to the public.
CHORE SERVICE NO LONGER AVAILABLE AT THE CENTER
Because of budget restraints, the James River Senior Center was forced to
discontinue providing Chore Service to community seniors.  For more
information or alternatives, please call the Senior Center at 252-2882.

WEEKLY MENU
MENU FOR SUNDAY, MAY 4 THROUGH SATURDAY, MAY 10
Meals are served at 12 noon each day

Sunday – Roast beef, mashed potatoes, French cut green beans, cranberry whip
Monday – Hamburger ric casserole, corn, Mandarin oranges.
Tuesday – Roast turkey, whipped potato w/gravy, green beans, strawberries
Wednesday --  BBQ chicken, baked potato w/sour cream, marinated cucumbers,
watermelon
Thursday – Sliced beef on multigrain bread, baked beans, tangy cole slaw,
cherry dessert
Friday	-- Baked pork chop, wild rice, Capri vegetable, sugar cookie
Saturday – Grilled cheese sandwich, tomato soup, lime Jello with pears,
brownie
         *100% whole wheat bread, margarine, milk and coffee are served with
all meals.

A hot, delicious, nutritious meal is being served at four different locations
in Jamestown, Center I, Gardenette, James House and Post House, English
Lutheran Church at Medina and Streeter Senior Center in Streeter.

Center I serves meals seven days per week with serving time at 12 noon Monday
through Sunday.  At all other Jamestown sites, the meals are served Monday
through Friday with serving times at Gardenette at 11:30 a.m., James House at
11:45 a.m. and Post House at 12 noon.  The Medina and Streeter site meals are
served Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 12:00 noon.

All meals are designed for those 60 years and older and contain at least 1/3
of their daily nutritional requirements.  A suggested donation of $4.00 is
asked
for those 60 and older and for those under 60 years of age the cost of each
meal is $6.50.  Reservation for meals should be made at least one day in
advance by calling 252-2882.

Transportation to the Jamestown sites can be obtained by calling James River
Transit at 25207888 with a cost of $1.00 each way when dining.  All other
rides are $2.50 each way.  Ride reservations for dining at sites should also
be made at least one day in advance.

Home delivered meals are available seven days per week for people over the age
of 60 that are homebound in Jamestown.  For more information, please call

Frozen meals are also available for home delivery for persons over 60,
anywhere in Stutsman County.  For more information please call 252-2882.

The James River Community Center is located at 502 10th Ave. S.E. is a private
non-profit agency which administers a program of services and opportunities
for persons in Stutsman County who have reached the age of 60.

James River Community Center wants to help seniors enjoy their retirement and
to assist them in maintaining their independence.

Funding sources include Title III, of the Older Americans Act, county and
state mill levies, United Way Funding, Urban Mass Transit Assistance and
private and fraternal contributions. 

If otherwise eligible, no one will be denied services on the grounds of race,
color or national origin. No one will be denied the benefits of or be
otherwise subjected to discrimination under this program, in compliance with
Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
 
TRANSPORTATION: 252-7888 
Dial-A-Ride bus service is available for people of any age in Jamestown. This
service takes persons to medical appointments, volunteer activities, shopping
and personal errands. Other busing services include rides to meals and
contracted rides for special needs. A medical bus to Fargo is scheduled the
second Monday of each month for medical services not available in Jamestown.
The Fargo bus trip also welcomes those who wish to shop in Fargo for the day.
Reservations are to be made in advance.

Sunday through Thursday – 8:00 am – 5:30 pm -- Last call 5:00 p.m.
Friday and Saturday – 8:00 am – 9:30 pm -- Last call 9:00 p.m.

SHOPPING ASSISTANCE: 252-2882 
Shopping assistance is available on Tuesdays and Fridays in Jamestown.
Groceries are carried into senior's homes. If eligible because of physical
condition, individual grocery shopping can be specifically arranged for
homebound seniors. The cost for the shopping bus if $4.00 round trip. You must
be shopping at one of the grocery stores to get the $4.00 round trip shoppers
rate.

OUTREACH: 252-2882 
James River Senior Citizen's Center has an Outreach worker that will come
into your home and help link your needs to services available to seniors.  Our
Outreach worker is a Senior Health Insurance Counselor.  Our Outreach worker
can also link you with other programs such as Indigent Drug Programs and many
other services.  There is NO CHARGE for Outreach Services.  For more
information, please call 252-2882 and ask for Outreach Services. 

RECREATION AND OTHER ACTIVITIES
All centers in the county have a variety of activities for leisure time.
There's also opportunity for volunteer work. Informative programs are also
available. Activities at Center I include Pool and Bridge every Monday at 1
p.m., Pinochle every Tuesday and Friday at 1 p.m. Bingo every Wednesday at 1
p.m. Consult your local center for an activity schedule. 

HEALTH SERVICES
Health maintenance clinics are held at most centers on a regular basis.
Screenings include blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes monitoring, weight
control, immunization and more. Call your local center for schedule. Hearing
clinics are scheduled at senior centers throughout the county. Call you local
center for scheduled dates.
 
VOLUNTEER SERVICES
You may join people of all ages who share their time and energy with older
persons by delivering home delivered meals, assisting with meal service at one
of the centers, helping with individual shopping assistance and much more.
